Complaining With the Best of Them
I recently ran across a document in my Bible study folder that contains a table listing all of the times the Israelites complained, what about, and how God responded. It prompted this prayer.
I may not voice my complaints as such, but I have them. When I react the way I do to the smallest of troubles or even my own mistakes; when I rage, sometimes silently, because I haven’t gotten what I somehow imagine I should, I am just like the Israelites. I’d like to think that if I saw You do for me what they saw You do for them, I could never complain, but I’m not so sure now as I once might have been.
I didn’t see it happen, but I know what You did for me. I know I don’t deserve it. There is no greater miracle. There is no greater sign. I don’t need a fire in the sky. You have put the fire in my heart. I don’t need to walk through separated seas, when you have separated me from sin and death. I don’t need to witness water from a rock. The water of life springs from the rock of my salvation. Please forgive my faithless complaining. I choose to trust You.
